It is difficult to navigate the large selection of nail files available on the market. Ranging from metal to glass, with low or high abrasiveness, curved and straight, they are all different and it is important to know exactly what we want to achieve in order to make the right choice. In this article, I will tell you the differences between them and which file is suitable for the respective nail type and procedure.
It is the abrasiveness that is the indicator responsible for the "roughness" of the file. I'm sure you've seen 100/180 or 180/200 saws and weren't sure which one was right for you. Each number corresponds to the abrasiveness of one side of the file and indicates how many abrasive points there are per square inch (2.54 cm). Accordingly, the fewer points, the larger they are in size and the rougher they make the file.
60-80 Very rough For shortening artificial and acrylic nails. For shaping
acrylic/artificial nails and the edges of other files.
100-150 Rough For shortening and shaping gel or acrylic nails
150-240 Medium For shaping medium-thick acrylic nails, shortening
natural nails, incl. toenails.
240-600 Fine For cleaning the surface of the nail from irregularities
and polishing natural nails.
600-2400 Extra fine For polishing and giving shine to all types of nails.
